A week in Gulu.
It's so hot in Gulu right now... I wish I could go to the pool.
International peace day parade - which went right by our house. |
Bananas haching from one of our banana trees in our back yard.
Millet drying on the sidewalk. |
Dead frog on sidewalk. I almost stepped on it. |
Our chicken on the railing. She thinks she can fly. One morning we discovered that she had flown out of our compound. |
Forrest fishing for Tilapia. A poisonous water snake swam right in front of us. |
Me fishing for Tilapia. I caught 2 that afternoon at the Gulu Recreational Area. This location was burnt down by the LRA during the war. |

Field trip to Kasubi Army school
This morning I went to a public school in Gulu. It was a much different school than I am used to back home. The rooms are much smaller, with no electricity and there were 100 students in each classroom. They go to school from 830 in the morning to 5 in the evening.
This is the total amount of students in the elementary school. |
This is me taking part in a social studies lesson. |
Props! |
The two principals of the primary and secondary school. |
The cook who cooks for over 2000 kids every day! |
Me in a different classroom. |
Funny sign. |
Trip to Fort Baker
Last Friday we went on a field trip to Fort Baker. Fort Baker is where Samuel Baker stayed from 1872-1878 to try and get rid of Arab Slave traders. Before he got there, the fort was where African slaves were sold, and also killed.
These are axe marks from slaves that got their heads chopped off! |
Another axe mark. We saw hundreds of axe marks. |
This is where Samuel Baker lived. |
Me standing on top of a cliff with a local Atcholi boy. |
Walking back to our van after visiting the Fort. |

Boda bodas
Here is a photo of a boda boda. We take these everyday. It costs 33 cents for me, Forrest, Luke and my dad to take one to downtown. We can all fit on one!
